On Monday, May 11, 2026, Refugee Women’s Alliance (ReWA) proudly celebrated the grand opening of the Othello Early Learning Center, marking a major milestone in expanding culturally responsive early learning opportunities for immigrant and refugee families.
Community members, partners, educators, advocates, and local leaders gathered to commemorate the opening of the new center, which will serve approximately 120 preschool children across six classrooms in a multilingual, multicultural, and inclusive learning environment.
The Othello Early Learning Center is ReWA’s second early learning center developed in partnership with the Low-Income Housing Institute (LIHI), following the successful launch of the Tony Lee Apartments Early Learning Center in Lake City. Together, these partnerships demonstrate the powerful impact of combining affordable housing with accessible, high-quality early childhood education.
In addition to supporting young learners and families, the new center also creates 25–30 new employment opportunities for educators and staff dedicated to serving the community. The celebration highlighted the many partnerships and leaders who helped make the project possible.
Guests also took part in a special Change Maker Awards presentation recognizing individuals and partners who have made meaningful contributions to immigrant and refugee communities. Awardees received a Glassybaby candle titled “Hero,” symbolizing the everyday impact of educators, advocates, and community supporters.
As ReWA continues to grow its early learning footprint, the Othello Early Learning Center represents more than a new facility, it reflects a continued investment in equity, opportunity, and community-centered care.
