In December, ReWA’s Youth Program awarded $500 scholarships to eight students. Over winter break, Youth Program staff and students celebrated the winners with an awards ceremony held at a Youth Social. The scholarship recipients shared their wisdom with younger students, inspiring them to persevere in the face of obstacles and hold fast to their dreams.
All of the scholarship winners are current participants in ReWA’s Post-Secondary Success Program. This is the first year ReWA gave the awards, which are funded by King County’s Best Starts for Kids initiative.
The recipients will start college in 2019 or are already in college. Emily Tomita, Youth Program Manager, said youth living in King County are eligible to join ReWA’s Post-Secondary Success Program. “Anyone aged 16-24 who wants to go to college, or is already enrolled, can enroll. We hope this will be an annual award.” Details for the 2019 scholarships will be on ReWA website next fall.
