LETTER TO PROSPECTIVE VOLUNTEERS
Dear Prospective Volunteer:
Thank you for your interest in the volunteer program at the Refugee
Women’s Alliance (ReWA). The Refugee Women's Alliance is a nonprofit, multi-ethnic organization
that promotes inclusion, independence, personal leadership and strong
communities by providing refugee and immigrant women and families with
culturally appropriate services. ReWA advocates for social justice,
public policy changes, and equal access to services while respecting
cultural values and the right to self determination. The volunteer program offers
many exciting opportunities to become involved and help ReWA in
this effort. The majority of volunteers at ReWA participate in
the English as a Second Language (ESL) and
Youth Program. However, there are also opportunities
to volunteer in all ReWA
programs.
Volunteering in the ESL program requires attendance at ten hours
of training at Seattle Central Community College, and quarterly
in-service trainings and orientations, in addition to time spent
planning and teaching. We ask that volunteers make a commitment
of at least six months to the program.
Once you have decided that you would like to volunteer for ReWA,
the next step is to complete the volunteer information
form and the WA State Patrol background check form and return them
to us as soon as possible. You will be called to set up an
interview time. Due to the nature of ReWA’s work and mission, we
are quite selective in choosing volunteers for our program. Within
a week of the interview you will be contacted regarding your acceptance
into the program.
If you have any questions regarding the Refugee Women’s Alliance
or our volunteer program, do not hesitate to call the Volunteer
Coordinator,
Shaun Rose at (206) 721-8441. Thank you again
for your interest. We hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Shaun Rose
Volunteer Coordinator
