ReWA's Senior Service Program provides
refugee and immigrant seniors the opportunity to network with their peers in
an environment that celebrates
and upholds their cultural traditions, thereby decreasing feelings of
isolation and loneliness as well as improving overall physical and mental
health.
We provide refugee and immigrant seniors in
King County with culturally appropriate nutrition and fitness services
including:
- nutritious meals
- nutrition education
- physical fitness sessions
- physical fitness education
- nutritional
and fitness themed field trips
- connecting to community resources
Meals
are structured to bring together seniors with their peers and strengthen
communities. There is time for participants to socialize, a very important
factor of the program as many refugee and immigrant seniors live alone and
have little or no extended family.
ReWA's fitness groups are led by certified
EnhanceFitness Instructors. Participants also have access to ReWA's exercise
facility on a drop-in basis. The facility includes weights, an exercise
bicycle, workout balls, and a library of physical fitness videos for use
with our TV/VCR/DVD unit.
