YOUTH Program LEAD TEACHER

POSITION TITLE:

Youth Program Lead Teacher

DEPARTMENT:

Youth Program

REPORTS TO:

Education Program Director

STATUS:

Nonexempt Regular Full Time (37.5 hours/week)

PURPOSE:

Prepare and implement activities for after-school homework tutoring sessions. Recruit students. Teach, and instruct students, staff and volunteers with regard to program curriculum, rules, policies and procedures. Maintain records associated with Youth Program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Tutor and supervise program participants to meet contract requirements and goals

  • Implement program curriculum and lead staff and volunteers in implementing program enhancements

  • Maintain attendance records and monitor participant files to ensure required documentation is complete

  • Recruit students as well as work with other youth program staff to insure recruitment efforts meet contract goals and requirements

  • Obtain new school/teacher and class information for each child for new school year or semester changes; send necessary correspondence to teachers and follow up as needed

  • Maintain inventory list of supplies and books; update as needed

  • Ensure adequate supplies and materials for tutoring and other related activities; clear purchases with program manager

  • Ensure facility is cleaned and returned to original condition after each session

  • Oversee, organize and implement annual community presentations, including program events and focus groups on program effectiveness and content

  • Plan snack menus and purchase snacks for each session

  • Maintain waiting list for Summer Program and other limited Youth Program classes. and follow through with proper procedures regarding parent notification.

  • Complete monthly and quarterly program evaluations from students, teachers and volunteers and submit to program director

  • Provide student information to database coordinator for database updating

  • Work with volunteer coordinator to plan volunteer orientation and recognition

  • Assist in the training, supervision, recruiting and orientation of volunteers for the After-School Tutoring Program; screen and place volunteers

  • Maintain volunteer files; track hours and submit quarterly report to Volunteer Coordinator

  • Provide updated attendance records, homework completion, and demographic data to the Program Director Monthly

  • Attend program and staff meetings and training

  • Other related duties as assigned by program manager

minimum QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge of refugee and immigrant family issues

  • Prior work or volunteer experience teaching or tutoring youth

  • Fundamental knowledge of and experience in curriculum implementation

  • Experience working with children from diverse cultures and backgrounds

  • Strong organizational and outreach skills

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse program participants and staff.

  • Record-keeping and report-writing skills

  • Patience and flexibility

  • Respect for others’ experiences, opinions, language, values, culture, and knowledge

  • Commitment to teamwork and collaboration

  • Available for flexible hours (evenings and weekends)

  • WA state driver’s license and vehicle insurance

preferred qualifications:
  • Bilingual/bicultural in Cambodian, Vietnamese or East African language

  • BA in social service or education

  • Previous supervisory experience
