POSITION TITLE:

STATUS:

Non-exempt Regular Part Time (20 hrs/week)
|
PURPOSE:
Design and carry out engaging learning activities for ESL
lower-level students; assess student needs; monitor attendance; and
track achievement
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-
Adopt, design and implement effective learning activities for
lower-level ESL students.
-
Track student attendance and provide daily attendance reports to the ESL
Coordinator.
-
Conduct post-assessment testing to determine level gains and academic
needs
-
Track student achievement and work closely with employment case managers
to promote student employment and placement in higher-level ESL classes.
-
Maintain a safe, respectful and engaging environment for students.
-
Assist with training and overseeing volunteer tutors, AmeriCorps
members, and work-study and service learning students.
-
Collaborate with other ESL instructors in ReWA’s education program to
organize and engage students in service projects, special training, and
field trips
-
Collaborate with ReWA’s employment and education program staff to foster
the development of the students.
-
Maintain key project documents and communication to support all aspects
of learning including periodic reports, students files and updates.
-
Attend program and staff meetings and training as needed
-
Other related duties as assigned by program manager and ESL coordinator
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
-
BA in
education, social work or related field. Teaching certificate preferred.
-
Two years
demonstrated experience in teaching lower-level ESL classes, literacy
and phonetics skills, and creating lesson plans
-
Familiarity with DSHS requirements and employment programs
-
Highly
positive with enthusiastic style capable of motivating students
-
Ability to
work as an effective team member in a multicultural organization
-
Knowledge
of key computer applications
-
Excellent
verbal and written communication skills
-
Must be
self-starter and dependable with strong problem-solving skills and good
judgment
-
Current WA
state driver’s license and auto insurance
-
Willingness to adhere to established program performance standards
requiring productivity, personal responsibility, a client/customer
service orientation, and the maintenance of a professional demeanor.
