PURPOSE:
Provide a comfortable and secure
environment for children to meet their emotional, social,
intellectual and physical development needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-
Follow and maintain the
program’s minimum licensing requirements for childcare (WAC chapters
170-295)
-
Identify and utilize
children’s individual strengths
-
Incorporate appropriate
strategies to promote literacy and language development
-
Provide child-centered activities that support the developmental
domains
-
Create developmentally appropriate curricula; write weekly lesson
plans
-
Organize activities and
materials that are age-appropriate and that meet the children’s
emotional, cultural, social, intellectual and physical development
needs
-
Conduct small- and large
group-activities for multi-ethnic groups of children that are
developmentally appropriate for the age group
-
Document children’s
accomplishments and participate in parent-teacher conferences
-
Follow
procedures/guidelines outlined in the employee handbook
-
Attend program training
sessions and childcare meetings
-
Maintain accurate records
such as attendance and teacher observations
-
Assist with the
preparation, presentation and clean up of projects and activities
including art projects, stories, songs, outdoor activities and
bulleting boards
-
Maintain equipment
-
Monitor and support
children’s interactions during meals, snacks, naps, free time, field
trips and during transitional time
-
Model age-appropriate
behavior in the classroom
-
Use developmentally
appropriate means of communicating with the children
-
Assist with the
maintenance of a clean, healthy and safe environment
-
Prepare and serve
breakfast, lunch and/or snacks
-
Work effectively as a
childcare team member
-
Provide information to
parents on childcare techniques as needed
-
Maintain STARS training
-
Maintain professional and
respectful interaction with clients and families
minimum QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Child Development Association
(CDA) certification
-
At least 18 years of age
-
One year paid or volunteer
experience working with preschoolers
-
Experience volunteering or
working in a multi-cultural environment with various educational
backgrounds
-
Must meet federal and state
health and safety standards and maintain credentials for childcare
-
Current food handlers permit,
CPR, First Aid and TB testing
-
Good verbal and written
English skills
-
Ability to lift a minimum of
45 pounds
-
Ability to multi-task while
maintaining a sense of humor
-
Ability to work flexible
hours occasionally
Preferred QUALIFICATIONS:
-
BA or AA degree in Early Childhood
Education with three to five years teaching experience in a childcare
facility
-
Bi-lingual/Bi-cultural
-
Fundamental computer skills (Microsoft
Windows, Word, Excel and the internet)
