POSITION TITLE:  
Lao DV Advocate
Department:

Domestic Violence

REPORTS TO:

DV Program Manager

STATUS / PAY:
Nonexempt Regular Full Time (18 hours/week) / DOQ
PURPOSE:

Provide support, advocacy, referral, interpretation, and social services to refugee/immigrant victims of domestic violence. Work with program staff to conduct domestic violence awareness community outreach and education. Provide support group sessions for women. Work collaboratively with other domestic violence and social service agencies to meet the needs of clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide case management services to domestic violence clients; serve as advocate on behalf of clients in need of resources and other support; and refer clients to appropriate resources as needed in accordance with funding requirements

  • Provide community education to mainstream service providers to assist them in working effectively with refugee and immigrant clients

  • Work with other DV staff and program manager to monitor, evaluate and improve program performance to most effectively meet client needs

  • Interpret for clients as needed to help them effectively navigate the various legal and social service resources

  • Conduct required number of community outreach and education presentations to refugee and immigrant men and women to foster awareness of domestic violence issues and available resources

  • Assist clients with obtaining legal assistance as needed and accessing appropriate community resources

  • Maintain accurate files and documentation for complete and timely reporting per funding requirements

  • Maintain confidentiality of client information and office location

  • Attend program and staff meetings and training as needed

  • Other related duties as assigned by program manager

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bilingual in Lao and English with strong verbal and written communication skills

  • BA degree in social services, psychology, counseling, social work, or related field

  • Minimum two years paid or volunteer experience working with refugee/immigrant women in social services

  • One-year experience working with victim advocacy, counseling and services

  • Computer literate

  • Respect for others’ experiences, opinions, language, values, culture, and knowledge

  • Commitment to teamwork and collaboration

  • Knowledge of domestic violence issues and a commitment to ending violence against women and children

  • Available for flexible hours (some evenings and weekends as needed)

  • WA state driver’s license and vehicle insurance

Preferred Qualifications:
  • MA in social services or related field

  • Certified in Domestic Violence Treatment

  • Bilingual in Thai
