STATUS:

Nonexempt Regular Part Time – 24 hours/week (including
evenings)
|
PURPOSE:
Teach
ESL-based Citizenship classes for refugee and immigrant clients.
Work with citizenship staff to organize and implement classroom
activities and curriculum, based on client need. Work with clients
to complete the naturalization process. Compile information and
submit timely reports.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-
Teach afternoon and evening classes of 15 - 25 students
-
Recruit participants to meet contract goals and requirements
-
Conduct intake, testing and class placement in accordance with
established procedures
-
Assist or refer clients to in-house social service specialists for N-400
and other citizenship application paperwork required to complete the
naturalization process.
-
Follow up with clients to ensure the naturalization process is completed
and that proper documentation is available for reporting
-
Develop citizenship lessons which meet the language abilities of the
clients and which prepare them for the citizenship process
-
Maintain participant and project data and document student progress and
outcomes in an accurate, retrievable, established format
-
Submit reports to management and other program staff in a timely manner
-
Work efficiently with classroom volunteers for effective program
delivery

Attend program and staff meetings and training
-
Other related duties as assigned by program manager
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Fluent in Vietnamese and English
-
Experience in teaching ESL / Citizenship classes, preferably in a
community-based setting.
-
Minimum of 1-2 years experience in social service delivery setting.
-
Ability to organize an educational program that responds to clients’
needs, empowers participants and fulfills specific grant requirements.
-
Excellent spoken and written English language skills.
-
Computer skills including database, spreadsheet, word processing and
email.
-
Commitment to refugee and immigrant advocacy.
-
Willingness to work flexible hours.
-
Ability to work effectively with diverse program participants and staff.
-
Respect for others’ experiences, opinions, language, values, culture,
and knowledge
