Education and Vocational Training Program
Without the ability to read and write, refugees and immigrants do not have equal access to economic and social opportunities in the larger community.
Through ReWA's Educational And Vocational Training Program, adult refugees and immigrants gain the language and vocational skills they need to support their families and improve their lives. War, persecution and displacement prevented many refugee and immigrant families from accessing educational opportunities in their countries of origin. Now in the United States, many adult refugees and immigrants find that improved English language and vocational skills can help them to advocate for themselves and their children, access community resources, secure and maintain livable-wage employment, become citizens, and use their voting power.
Refugee and immigrant women and men from around the globe participate in ReWA's English as a Second Language classes, as well as our Citizenship and Vocational Training classes. ReWA's staff's language competencies in Amharic, Arabic, Bosnian, Cantonese, Cambodian, Cham, Farsi, Hmong, Ilokano, Laotian, Mandarin, Oromo, Romanian, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Swahili, Taiwanese, Tagalog, Thai, Tigrigna, Ukrainian and Vietnamese enable ReWA to provide language and support services to our diverse communities.
ReWA's Education and Vocational Training Program, in conjunction with the Family Support Program, help refugees and immigrants to develop the skills that will lead to living-wage employment. Participants involved in the program receive individual assistance from bilingual job coaches and employment specialists who work with them to gain training, develop family management plans, and successfully find employment.
